#TeamCalvert take on Great North Run

September 11, 2018

On Sunday 9 September 2018, #TeamCalvert took on the North East's most iconic half marathon - the Great North Run.

A scorching hot day,  there were over 57,000 runners taking part in this amazing event. Mo Farrah, again raced to victory taking first place for the fifth consecutive year.

#TeamCalvert runners were welcomed into the charity village once again by Michelle Howe and Northumbria University students, who donated their time to offer our runners post-race massages.

One of #TeamCalvert runners was Brian Hoadley, who four years to the day had found out he had Type 1 diabetes. Brian took up running as a way to help his condition and was excited to have finished his first Great North Run for Calvert Trust Kielder. Now a keen runner, Brian has also taken part in the Virgin Money London Marathon and will again be running in a couple of weeks at the London Royal parks half marathon.

Local geordie, David Wright succeeded in completing his first every Great North Run, only 9 months after having knee surgery. He was thrilled to complete the run - remembering his first couch to 5k run David said ' I was so puffed and so sore I didn't think I would ever get moving again, yet each walk/run got better, I started doing the park runs and now today I just feel so much better than I thought I would - I still can't believe I have done it.'

We would like to say Thank You to all of our #TeamCalvert runners, your support both by running and the fundraising you have achieved will help us continue to support disabled adults and children through outdoor activities.
