Ten must do's in Kielder
January 29, 2018
It's time to get out and about in the great wild outdoors, so grab your phones and download the National Trust's 50 things to do before your 11 and a half.
To help you get started, we have listed ten things that you can do at Calvert Kielder. Follow our list below to start an exciting adventure for the whole family to create amazing memories to cherish for a lifetime.
1. Build a Den
Explore the amazing Kielder Water and Forest Park, collect any fallen branches and start creating a den that the whole family can fit under. Unsure where to begin then join our team on a Bushtucker activity where you can test out your Ray Mears skills. Learn how to build a shelter, light a fire, brew your own cuppa or even bake your own bannock in the outdoors.
2. Run around in the Rain
Who doesn't like to go jumping in puddles and squelching in the mud?
3. Go on a Bike Ride
There are lots of different rides to go on in Kielder, from beginner to mountain bike tracks. You can plan your route by visiting Kielder Castle and Visitor centre.
4. Play Pooh Sticks
An oldie but a goodie, simply stand on our bridge over the Cranecleugh Burn, drop a stick and then race to the other side of the bridge to see whose stick floats by first.
5. Stargaze
Calvert Kielder is set in the middle of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, so wrap up warm and sit out on your private balcony to watch the night sky from the comfort of your own Chalet.
6. Play a Grass Trumpet
A childhood favourite, grab a piece of grass, place it between your two thumbs and blow.
